13 October 2008 @ SMART Project Space
We return to SMART Project Space with an evening of recent works by DNK's artistic director Koen Nutters. Koen presents two distinct works with entirely different objectives; an amplified quartet in the auditorium and a chamber ensemble in the chapel.

In the Auditorium:
Quartet #1
(for 4 players, 4 minidiscs, 4 microphones, 4 mixers, 4 speakers and paper)
Andre Avelas - MiniDisc, Paper Koen Nutters - MiniDisc, Paper Morten J. Olsen - MiniDisc, Paper Raed Yassin - MiniDisc, Paper
Quartet #1 is the first in a series of quartet pieces by KN in which he further arranges techniques that were developed together with Christophe Meierhans as the duo: TAPE THAT.
The material for this quartet is a recording of Mozart's string quintet Eine kleine Nachtmusik, known as one of the most annoying melodies of all times. The object of the piece is to make new music out of the recordings of the old music. Trying to deform the known into something still fresh and yet unknown. Quartet #1 was first performed at Festival MADE in Gent, for which it was originally composed.
In the Chapel:
formas (for ensemble)
Anne La Berge - Flute Taylan Susam - Clarinet Wilbert Bulsink - Piano Morten J. Olsen - Vibraphone Seamus Cater - Woodblock
This piece is an attempt to make non-linear music without huge expansive silences. Most of the material, and the resulting form, was generated by employing chance operations. The piece was written in the summer of 2008 and this is it's first performance.
