Tonights DNK has three perfomances, the Tetuzi Akiyama, Jozef van Wissem duo, followed by the first 'Afregelsalon - Soirée de Modification' of the season; this edition of Afregelsalon includes Gert-jan Prins solo and Holland's most eminent Audio Visual performance group 'Telcosystems'.
Set 1:
Tetuzi Akiyama and Jozef van Wissem.
Jozef van Wissem - Baroque lute Tetuzi Akiyama - Electric guitar
The extremely focused string duo of Jozef van Wissem and Tetuzi Akiyama is a welcome return to the DNK stage. The interlocking of their respective instruments, the guitar and lute is an act of hyper-sensitised listenings and reactions. Akiyama is a very important figure in the lineage of the guitar in improvised music, who together with Toshimaru Nakamura founded the famous 'Off-Site' series of improvised music in Tokyo, a series that became one of the birth-places of 'silent' electro-acoustic improvisation. Jozef van Wissem has re-interpreted the baroque lute and contemporised it in many settings, including collaborations with musicians like Elliot Sharp and Captain Beefheart's guitarist Gary Lucas.
Set 2:
Gert-Jan Prins - Solo A/V equipment.
A grainy performance of the most subtle noises and static by Gert-jan Prins. Prins' ever expanding arsenal of instruments could include all manner of self made electronic devices, percussion or televisions. He is a world renowned performer / builder of analogue electronic systems, creating rich and as yet un-mined sonorities of sound in the listenable audio domain.
Set 3:
Telcosystems: Gideon Kiers David Kiers Lucas van der Velden
Telcosystems research the relationship between the behavior of programmed numerical logic and the perception of a conversion of this behavior into the physical world, seeking for its own narrative in the world of abstract spatial image and sound. The hallmark of their work is its lucid and restrained aestheticism, which is closely related to the technology they use.
Afregelsalon / Soirée de Modification is a sub-series of DNK-Amsterdam curated by Gert-jan Prins. It includes all manner of happenings, AV experiments with analogue and digital devices, found objects and other self-made gear. The focus is on bringing inner machine worlds to the outside audiovisual domain.
