The Austrian trombonist / composer Radu Malfatti has traversed different stages in his musical career. In the 70s and 80s he was a leading figure in the English free improvisation and jazz composers scene, making a wide curve towards minimal composition in the 90s. He is a member of the Wandelweiser Composers Ensemble, a group of composers implementing extreme Cageian aesthetics. Their music is concerned with "the evaluation and integration of silence[s] rather than an ongoing carpet of never-ending sounds”.
Koen Nutters is a key figure in the international N Collective. While being a bassist, a composer of sorts and a member of the post-conceptual music duo TAPE THAT, he is also the artistic director of DNK. The emphasis of his recent playing, with the new N Collective ensemble 'The Liquid N', has been on slow pitch textures and a-tonal intervallic relationships.
Raed Yassin is a Lebanese bassist and video artist recently relocated to Amsterdam to study at the prestegious art school 'De Ateliers'. He is a member of 'The A Trio' with Mazen Kerbaj and Sharif Sehnaoui. The focus of his playing is on using the bass as a sounding board for all sorts of vibrating objects and machines, creating hybrid textures and imaginative sound projections.
